Additional information:
The yak is the only species of bovine with a multi-layered and particularly dense coat from which spinnable wool can be produced. Its wool is very similar to cashmere wool, but slightly coarser. Yak wool is exceptionally warm, regulates moisture, and is breathable. A distinction is made between the firm, long guard hair (the coarser wool) and a fine, spinnable undercoat, also known as fine wool or down. The wool is obtained through both shearing and combing.
